U3A Highvale is part of the world-wide Universities of the Third Age movement that began in 1972. The Glen Waverley branch started life at the Highvale Retirement Village in 1996. It is a voluntary, non-profit organisation which offers low-cost, life-long learning opportunities and retirement activities for seniors, retirees and people over-55 in Monash.
We are fortunate to have the support of Village management and the use of facilities in the Village compound. In return, we help to combat social isolation and develop social interactions with senior community groups especially in Glen Waverley, through interesting conversations, courses and physical activities.
The emphasis on decreasing COVID-19 cases to zero is now replaced by that of increasing the number of people vaccinated. Hence the Victorian government has made it mandatory for workers in certain industries to be fully vaccinated. In this context, we understand that for entry into the Village community centre, it is mandatory for visitors to be fully vaccinated. As for Monash facilities, Monash Council has stipulated that "All persons over 16 years entering a Monash Facility must provide proof of full vaccination status or authorised exemption notice from a Medical Practitioner." It is U3A Highvale's policy to adhere to the rules set by our 'landlords'.
Even with the recent lifting of restrictions, all in-person classes at the Village are suspended until further notice. Classes held at the Pavilion are likely to reopen from 12 November 2021.
All online classes will continue uninterrupted as per the scheduled timetable.
Please observe all current Victorian Government COVID-19 guidelines. Contact us for details.
